Brett Lee made it into the international arena in the 2nd test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (1999/2000) played between Australia and India. Even as he entered the international team, there was a lot of expectation on the young man and Brett lee proved his mark with a 5 wicket haul in the 1st innings of the test match followed by 2 wickets in the 2nd innings. His sheer pace did the damage for the Indian batsmen. Brett was seen as a future bowler for Australia. And one month after that he made his ODI debut against Pakistan in the Carlton and United Series. He also made his first 5 wicket haul in ODIs against India in that series. In 2000 Brett Lee performed very well against New Zealand. He took an overall of 18 wickets from the 3 matches.
From there on Brett lee has performed consistently throughout his career. He has had 3 five wicket haul in ODIs and 4 five haul in test matches. He has to his credit 151 and 139 One Day and Test wickets respectively to his credit. One of the most memorable performances of Brett Lee was in the VB series. Lee won the man of the match accolade in both of the VB Series finals against England as well as the player of the series award after a stunning display of controlled fast bowling. He was awarded with the Young Wisden Cricketer of the Year for the year 1999-2000. He was also awarded the Sir Donald Bradman Young Player of the Year in 2000.
