David Beckham-career

David Robert Joseph Beckham

Appearances Goals Wins Loss Team
David started playing football for his local side, Ridgeway Rovers and came to be noticed for the first time when he played at Old Trafford when he won the ' TSB Bobby Charlton Soccer Skills' Finals. He was 11 years old at that time. Manchester United scout, Malcolm Fidgeon was watching David's game for Ridgeway. Impressed by his performance at that young age, Malcolm decided to talk to David's parents about David playing for United. But his parents, at that time thought that schooling was more important to David. So David had to first finish school at Chingford before joining Manchester United. From then on David went to every game Manchester United played and watched the practice sessions keenly. And finally at the age of 16, David Beckham left home and signed for Manchester United as a trainee on 8 July, 1991.

With MU he was in the team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1992 which included Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. His wonderful performance for the youth team led David to the senior team debut on 23 September, 1992. This was as a substitute for Andrei Kanchelskis in a League Cup match against Brighton and Hove Albion. David then signed as a professional on 23 January 1993, followed by his first full appearance in September 1994 against Port Vale, again in the League Cup.This was followed two months later with his first goal for United, against Turkish side Galatasaray in the Champions League.

He scored his first Premiership goal against Aston Villa in the first game of the 1995/1996 season. They lost the match. But during that season, Beckham scored eight goals and United won the Premiership and FA Cup, firmly establishing David's position in the team. The following season Beckham scored a famous goal against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park from the half-way line. From then on, David became one of the major players for Manchester United, playing 311 games, scoring 74 goals and winning 11 medals. David first played for England's national team against Moldova on 1 September, 1996. In the 1998 World Cup in France, Beckham was left out of the first 2 matches, however he proved himself in the third match, against Columbia, scoring one of his famous free-kicks. Beckham performed wonderfully in World Cup 2002 in Japan and Korea. When most of his teammates struggled Beckham performed beautifully as the captain of the side taking the side till the finals.
