Adam Gilchrist is one of the best wicketkeeper batsmen the world has ever seen. He makes on of the key player of the Australian cricket team, with his superb keeping and aggressive batting. Although his entry into the international arena had controversies (as he replaced the popular Ian Healy), he proved his potential and is now an inevitable member of the Australian side. Gilchrist definitely is multi talented. Behind the stumps he is very agile and reliable. No one can read the batsman's game play as Gilchrist does, as he himself is a good batsman. He is an aggressive opening batsman in the One day games, he gives his team the dashing start and in the tests he is a prolific scorer down the order. If there has been one player who has single-handedly changed the face of Test cricket over the course of the last few years it has been Adam Gilchrist. With an average of around 60 in test matches, he plays the same way as in the one day games.
His one day batting often gives the team a perfect platform in the first 15 overs, taking of the pressure off those down the order. Apart from cricket, Adam is an honest, positive and extremely likeable person. His honesty shone through in the 2003 World Cup when against Sri Lanka in a crucial game he walked back to the dressing-room despite the fact that the umpire had not given him out.
Gilchrist's ability to play two vital roles has made him one of the most important players of the Australian side and as the current vice-captain of his side he has got a huge responsibility on his shoulders.
