Brian Lara was born on May 2, 1969 in the West Indies. He was born in a modest family as the youngest son of Mrs. Pearl Lara and Bunty Lara, a government agriculture officer. Like most of the boys in the Caribbean, he took to cricket because it was so closely related to the West Indian life. Though his father and grandfather had a love for cricket and always encouraged Lara, there were no predecessors in the family who had a strong cricketing background. It was his sister Agnes who took him to a cricket club when he was 7. Lara is remembered by the villagers as a young boy who was very competitive and talented.
Lara's most favorite sport after cricket is golf. He has even taken part in some local Golf tournaments.
