There were not much glass windows in the neighborhood that were not broken by Sehwag during his childhood. His passion for cricket started during his young ages. Though he did not get a big support from his family for choosing cricket as his career, he decided to make cricket as his destiny.
Sharma, who was Sehwag's first and favorite coach fondly, remembers that Sehwag first came to his cricket net at the Government Boys School ground at Vikas Puri in West Delhi in 1993, when he was around 14 years old. Satish, popularly known as Neelu, was an official of the Delhi and District Cricket Association. He also ran the high-profile Madras Club. Along with Sharma, it was Neelu who helped Sehwag reach International cricket. Neelu made Sehwag play two matches for the Madras Club and the dashing batsman came up with big scores. Sehwag then made it to the Delhi team for a Ranji Trophy match against Haryana. He started off by scoring a century. Sehwag made his international debut in 1999 when he was selected to play against Pakistan in the Pepsi Cup. Sehwag's become a noted player only in 2001, when he played against Australia where he made a half-century followed by a couple of wickets.
Sehwag's latest achievement came in when he became the first Indian player to score 300 runs in a test innings, breaking the previous best of VVX Laxman's 281.
